Earth Day may have passed, but that doesn’t mean we should stop the “green” campaign. In fact, we should be doing it every day and in all aspects of everyday living. And yes, we definitely can do this with our wine cellars as well! WCI has been a long-standing advocate of creating eco-friendly wine cellars. That’s why we’ve been developing our products to embrace this cause. If you haven’t joined the green movement yet, it’s about time you should. WCI will help you out with these eco-friendly choices:
For those of you who are not familiar with this, cork is a natural and durable material that is highly recommended for wine cellar projects. This material is harvested with minimal impact on the environment. Cork is a rapidly renewable resource and perfect for wine cellar flooring and/or tabletops. Here at WCI we carry several cork flooring options. We have the Cork Traditional Wide Flooring in four different styles. We also have the Cork Deco Narrow Plank Flooring with six unique designs. As for the tabletops, we also carry three style choices: Cuero, Pedras, and Roca. Our Cork material in general features the JointShield moisture protection system and Microban. It is also fire resistant and thermally and acoustically insulated.
Most of you might not be aware of this, but WCI wood products are all formaldehyde-free. Formaldehyde is quite a popular element in construction materials, including building wine cellars. But in a research conducted by the IARC (International Agency for Research on Cancer) in California, formaldehyde has been found to be “carcinogenic to humans” or contains “cancer-inducing elements.” Our cabinet-grade plywood for wine cellar and furniture purposes comes with the Timber Products CARB Certificate. This covers our wood products like Mahogany, Walnut, and Red Oak, among other varieties. This means the plywood we use in our business meets the California standards for formaldehyde. That includes the federal standards emphasized in the “Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Products Act.”
Here at WCI, our Redwood racks and other furniture are purchased under SFI guidelines. When wood products are SFI-certified, this means they have been harvested in an environmentally sound manner. By purchasing SFI-certified Redwood, you are contributing to the protection of the environment. Plus, Redwood is one of the top wood options for custom wine cellars. It has been proven to age gracefully, just like your wine bottles. ^_^
