Designing a custom pantry doesn’t have to be a difficult process. The Organized Living online Design Tool is a free tool that allows you to create a custom freedomRail design for any space in your home. Recently, Organized Living partnered with Jacqueline DiNuoscio, editor and creator of the recipes blog GoGoGoGourmet, to create her dream pantry. When building her forever home, she knew it was important to have a pantry that’s not only functional, but adjustable as well – considering what she does for a living. Our online Design Tool was exactly what she needed to create a custom design for her pantry. Jacqueline was able to maximize the space and choose the accessories that best fit her needs and lifestyle. Her dream pantry finally became a reality!

“I’m so happy that I got to use the freedomRail system to do this pantry. It has made it incredibly easy to put together a very functional design that everyone in our family has been able to keep up with. All the adjustability and product features have made it incredibly simple for my husband and even my two and five year old boys to put things back exactly where they go every single time,” said Jacqueline about her new freedomRail pantry.

Perfect Pantry Design Considerations

It’s easy to design a pantry that works for you. Before beginning the design process, keep these items in mind when defining your space:

  • How much storage space is available?
  • What will you store? (food, linens, paper items, small appliances, etc.)
  • What are your storage and shelving preferences? (Wire vs solid shelving, open shelving, drawers, cabinets, etc.)
  • What’s important to you? (Design, functionality, adjustability, space, aesthetics, etc.)

Before Jacqueline began using the online Design Tool, she knew she wanted to maintain a white, clean kitchen. Keeping this in mind, she wanted to create a functional space in her pantry that would hold her everyday small appliances like her coffee maker, toaster oven and espresso machine. Jacqueline placed her small appliances on top of a custom stained wood counter top above the freedomRail OBox 1 Shelf Units to seamlessly tie into the rest of her home. Having outlets already installed on the pantry wall, Jacqueline and her family are able to use the appliances in the pantry so the kitchen counters can stay clutter-free.

Learn From Your Past Pantries

Knowing what you want when creating a custom pantry is a game changer. Consider what’s worked for you in the past. What hasn’t worked for you? What’s been missing? What’s frustrated you? In Jacqueline’s case, her previous pantries had wire shelving. Although wire shelving is a great solution for many, it wasn’t a match for Jacqueline. She had instances where food packages would spill open and it would fall through the wire shelving below, creating a huge mess. Solid shelving was exactly what Jacqueline needed in her custom pantry to avoid future messes and create an easy clean-up solution.

Flexibility and Adjustability = Satisfaction

When it comes to pantries, flexibility and adjustability are key. Food packaging comes in a variety of sizes, so it can be very difficult to fit and store all of your items. freedomRail is the perfect storage solution for pantries because it gives you the ability to adjust your shelving and accessories with ease. Jacqueline no longer has to cram all of her items onto one shelf or turn ridiculously tall cereal boxes sideways to fit. freedomRail gives her the ability to move the shelf to the exact height that she needs it to be in seconds. “I would easily be able to add another short shelf and it would probably only take me 25 seconds to do it!” Jacqueline said in regards to adding additional shelving in her pantry.

Think Outside of the Box

Repurposing traditional freedomRail accessories has been a huge space-maximizer for Jacqueline in her new pantry. She used freedomRail solid Wood Shoe Shelves, and repurposed them into a rack to store all of her canned goods. It’s a perfect solution for Jacqueline because she’s able to see everything she has, and once a can is removed the next rolls down in its place. Jacqueline also used this update for bread storage, mimicking the way loaves are merchandised at the grocery store. Now bread never gets lost.

Store More with freedomRail Accessories

There are just certain items in your pantry that no matter how hard you try, they just don’t stand up or store on a shelf correctly. Luckily, freedomRail offers a variety of pull-out accessories, including OBox Chrome Baskets that are perfect for storing these items. This is Jacqueline’s favorite feature because it allows her to store bags of chips, potatoes and sugar together that are difficult to store on shelves. These are removable as well, so you can take the entire basket with you to the kitchen when you need it.
