Most clients want to include a shower channel when designing a new bathroom or refurbishing an existing one. At least that's what the 4.7 million Germans think who, according to market research by sanitaryware trade association VDS, are currently planning to install a floor-level shower. With its new “Advantix Cleviva” shower channel, system vendor Viega is now opening up an entirely new chapter in that respect. The new drain unit combines the best features of modern shower channel design and single-point drainage incorporating optimum ease of installation and a stylish look. The shower channel will be available in two design variants on its launch in July 2019. In addition to five standard colours, there will also be a gilt variant and a wide range of special colours on request.
Providing linear drainage, Viega “Advantix” shower channels are a stylish option for creating floor-level showers. Installed in front of the wall, for example, they imbue a fully tiled shower floor with an expansive look that will make any bathroom appear more spacious and airy. The new “Advantix Cleviva” shower channel combines those design options with all the installation benefits of single-point drainage. As opposed to existing shower channels, the “Advantix Cleviva” routes the water along a slim stainless steel profile with a stylishly distinctive incline to a central floor drain featuring a factory-fitted sealing collar. That makes installing the shower channel and integrating it into the bonded seal much safer and more efficient.
Attractive product portfolio
The stainless steel profiles of the screed-mounted “Advantix Cleviva” shower channel are available in 800, 1,000 and 1,200 mm lengths. They can be cut for precision fitting down to 300 mm on-site. A specially appealing feature is the ability to seamlessly combine multiple shower channels when styling large single shower cubicles or rows of showers. This is made possible by the neutral-tapering 100 mm long final edges of the channel profile.
The shower water is discharged via one of the two inlay design variants and the single-point drain mounted on the unfinished floor. This is a corrugated drain that has proved its worth at the highest level over many years thanks to its low installation height and minimal cleaning requirement. It comes in two variants: the standard variant for installation heights from 95 to 155 mm; and for particularly low-rise bathrooms a refurbishment project variant starting from 70 mm installation height. However, any other required installation heights can also be realised thanks to the 50 mm HT pipe connection between the drain and sealing flange. The compact design of the Viega corrugated drain means that the HT pipe connection can rotate freely through 360°, depending on the installation environment, and also allows the shower channel to be installed directly on the wall.
The drainage capacity of the “Advantix Cleviva” at its lowest installation height is a minimum of 0.4 l/s; that of the standard drain is up to 0.75 l/s. If an additional HT pipe is used to equalise the height, the capacity is increased correspondingly.
For applications in bathrooms subject to sound-proofing requirements, the optional sound protection element below the drain permits compliance with the latest DIN 4109 and VDI 4100 sound protection standards. Where fire protection requirements are imposed, the familiar “Advantix” pipe lead-in R 120 can be used.
Securely sealed by bonding to tiles
Just as innovative as the overall design is the integration of the new Viega shower channel into the bonded sealing system with tiles conforming to the DIN 18534 standard. The separate “tiler's kit”, included as standard, features a sealing collar with a sealing surface extending over more than 120 mm, which merely has to be clipped into the drain flange from above. This means that, when sealing, the collar is laid smoothly on the screed with no kinking, and can be integrated directly into the bonded seal without need for reworking. That also maintains a clear separation between the work of the various trades: the plumber installs the drain, the tiler ensures that the bonded seal is secure.
As a result, the new sealing system of the “Advantix Cleviva” shower channel conforms to all water exposure classes up to W3-I as stipulated in the latest DIN 18534-1 standard on water-proofing of interior spaces for domestic bathrooms with floor-level showers with no shower separation.
For the consumer, the Viega combination of linear and single-point drainage pays dividends not only based on its easy, and therefore economical, installation but equally by how easy it is to clean. For example, after showering the drain profile of the “Advantix Cleviva” can simply be wiped hygienically clean. And the inlay can be removed in a single action in order to clean the drain sieve. The drain itself is designed to continuously self-clean using the flow of water.
